SupportUK Ambulance Service NHS Trust selects HealthCare Software's Controlled Drugs Management solution - becomes first UK Customer

A United Kingdom Ambulance Service NHS Trust has signed a multi-year G-Cloud14 contract with HealthCare Software’s (HCS) UK Distributor, Ortivus UK, to implement and use HCS’ award-winning Controlled Drugs Management (CDM) solution across its region. Privacy concerns prevent the Service from being named.

In the United Kingdom, Controlled Drugs must be managed in compliance with the Misuse of Drugs Act (1971) and other regulations, which have strict requirements for appropriate record-keeping of all movements, transactions and administration of controlled substances. These regulations are challenging to adhere to accurately using legacy paper registers. Ambulance services are regularly audited by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) across a range of activities including medication safety.

CDM provides a digital solution to replace paper CD registers, giving Clinicians confidence that they are meeting their legislative obligations, Managers an instant view of all CD-related transactions in their area of responsibility and Supply and Pharmacy transparency over the use of CDs across the service.

The Chief Pharmacist and Clinical Director of Medicines at the Service said, “HCS’ CDM solution will transform our management of Controlled Drugs. Their solution is exclusively built for ambulance services making it highly suited to our dynamic work environment while hugely increasing our visibility of CD transactions by replacing paper registers with their digital solution. We are excited to be working with HCS and Ortivus and look forward to adopting this innovative solution.”

Rich Metcalfe, CEO of HealthCare Software, said, “I’m delighted to welcome the Service as the first customer of our CDM solution in the UK. A proven solution in Australia, it’s an exciting moment for HCS to be expanding into the UK. The team at the Service has been terrific to work with and has quickly understood the value CDM can bring - we’re looking forward to implementing the solution with them and helping them realise the same benefits that our Australian customers enjoy.” Elias Obaid, Global Sales Manager at Ortivus, added “Ortivus is thrilled to welcome the Service to its UK portfolio of customers. Our partnership with HCS is addressing a critical issue in the management of Controlled Drugs and it’s great to see a first UK Service embracing this opportunity.”
